Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thick, chewy chocolate chip cookies with deep toffee flavor from browned butter and a long chill.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet or dark chocolate chips or chunks

Directions

    Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling, until golden and nutty, about 5 minutes. Cool slightly.

    Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

    Whisk the browned butter with both sugars, then add the eggs, cream, and vanilla and whisk until combined and lighter.

    Fold in the dry mixture, then the chocolate.

    Cover and chill.

    Line two baking sheets and preheat the oven to 375°F.

    Scoop about 3-tablespoon portions 2 inches apart.

    Bake 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly golden and the edges are set.
